The third way to stop Medicare errors or scams is to report your concerns.
Phone the provider - your doctor, clinic, hospital, home health agency, care facility or medical equipment provider. Explain your concern. They will review their records, correct any mistakes made and refund Medicare. If you have supplemental insurance, be sure the provider refunds that payment, too. Look for your corrected Medicare statement.
If you don't feel comfortable contacting the provider and don't have someone to assist you, or if you don't get an acceptable response within a reasonable time, call Iowa SMP at 1-800-423-2449 for assistance. If you aren't an Iowa resident, you can contact the National Consumer Protection Technical Resource Center at 1-877-808-2468 to find out how to contact your state's SMP office.
